History
Wong Mon Toy (1907 - 1960)
Successor to Fu-Jow Pai
Wong Moon Toy (a.k.a. George Moon Toy Wong) was born in Leung-Dung Sam-Share located in
northern Toi San county, of Kwongtung Province, China in April 1907.  Wong Moon Toy’s first kung-
fu experience was studying Hung Gar with his uncle.
When he was old enough, Wong Moon Toy went to school in Kwongchou for several years.  During
this period, he studied a northern kung-fu style known as Mi Jung I with Lau Jok Fung.  Sifu Lau was
a member of the renowned Ching Wu Athletic School, headquartered in Shanghai (established in
1909 by Fok Yuen Gop), but with branch schools located in Kwongtung, Kwongsai, Hong Kong,
Malaysia, and Vietnam.
In 1927, at the age of 20, Wong Mon Toy then studied with his uncle Wong Bil Hung.  From 1927-
1934, Wong Mon Toy studied Hark Fu Mon (Black Tiger System) kung-fu diligently under Wong Bil
Hung's guidance in Law Fow San (Law Fow Mountain) located in central Kwongtung Province.  In
addition, Wong Mon Toy also studied Shao Lum Tit Dar (Sports Medicine) and Hung Gar kung-fu
with Wong Bil Hung as well.  In 1934 Wong Moon Toy became the second generation successor of
Fu-Jow Pai.
From 1934 until Wong Mon Toy arrived in New York City, he spent time training in Hong Kong and
Malaysia.  Wong Mon Toy exchanged kung-fu techniques with Lee Tit Fu (one of Lum Sai Wing's
top students) in Hong Kong.
In 1952 Wong Moon Toy founded the first Fu-Jow Pai school open to the public on Chrystie Street
on the lower east side of Manhattan.  In 1955, he composed and published a book titled Shao Lum
Tit Dar Leung Fong.  In 1957 some of his students found another place for him to teach; the second
Fu-Jow Pai school open to the public.  This school was located at 149 Hester Street, 2nd floor on the
corner of Bowery, in New York City.  The school was known by two names:
1) Fu-Jow Pai Kwok Gai Share (Tiger Claw System National Skill Society)
2) Fu-Jow Pai Ching Wu (Tiger Claw Ching Wu)
